Should there even be another movie?

King Kong vs Godzilla remake news is met with different reactions from monster movie fans. The prospect of a King Kong vs Godzilla remake is a dream match come true and something that they have been waiting for. Other sci-fi fans are a bit skeptical of a King Kong vs Godzilla remake because Toho Company still follows the tradition of using live actors in rubber costumes stomping on miniatures as opposed to modern day CGI. And there are other movie fans that do not want a King Kong vs Godzilla remake because the original 1963 movie featuring these two monster icons was so poorly received in the United States.

Should there be a King Kong vs Godzilla remake?

  • No

Time is ripe

All of that being said a King Kong vs Godzilla remake would do quite well in the box office depending on which special effects Toho and Universal agree on, and how the King Kong vs Godzilla remake marketing campaign is handled. With the recent success of the big gorilla in 2005 and Cloverfield in 2008, audiences are very keen on a modern take of giant monsters. A quick look at online video sharing sites shows that many fans are making their own King Kong vs Godzilla remake trailers to spark interest.

Who would win this rematch?

  • Godzilla
  • King Kong

Cultural differences...

Although Toho's mutated dinosaur is a Japanese cultural icon, the big G's United States versions have always been sub-par; through bad dubbing, poor special effects, and cultural differences between the U.S. and Japan, mainstream movie going audiences in America just don't get the phenomena. Much of that has to do with rubber costumes. Ultimately if Universal and Toho are going to invest money in a King Kong vs Godzilla remake, this must be addressed. The big question is: should both monsters be fully rendered in CGI if there is a King Kong vs Godzilla remake?

CGI or not?

The box office success of TriStar's 1998 version of the radioactive green lizard was due to two things: a very expensive marketing campaign and the fact that Big G was CGI as opposed to man in a suit. Although this success may lead one to believe that it is a no-brainer to use CGI in a King Kong vs Godzilla remake, that is not the case. The TriStar monster had none of the lovable features of the Japanese dinosaur, and old time fans hated their version. The Japanese protested the movie, and this dampened talk about a King Kong vs Godzilla remake using CGI.

Sensitive issues

Toho is very well aware of the market for a King Kong vs Godzilla remake, and if they do team up with Universal there will pressure to appeal to broad audiences for a King Kong vs Godzilla remake. Toho actually did a test run with another movie and a CGI version of their beast and it went over well with audiences. Toho does not want to offend their rabid Japanese fan base with a King Kong vs Godzilla remake, so they will do the market research before giving the OK for CGI. Universal would not OK rubber costumes for a King Kong vs Godzilla remake.

Ifeel universal should go threw with a remake of king kong vs godzilla. Because it would be very exciting to see the worlds greatest two monsters of all time battle again.It was interesting to see the original in 1963 and it would be even better to see these to most famous iconic characters now days in modern cgi technolgy. Remember king kong and godzilla are monsters that many of us have grew up with and the impact of the two still lives on to this day. This movie must be remade for true die-hard fans of then and now.Also the special effects must be upgraded to give movie goers a more realiest feel to the big ape and big lizard.Universal gave us amore real looking kong in 2005 so therefore toho and universal needs to come to terms and make a agreement.Its time that team up together with truce and get this movie created soon.People are really waiting for this to happen so why keep them waitng.Its what i feel in my heart that this is what should be done.Remakes reqiure careful time put in it.The cgi approach is mandatory o course because of quality.Now i do respect the japanese technic because it have entertained people of all cultures not just in japan but america etc; but america and japan must consider this idea.We all love king kong and godzilla so why not keep it fair with peace.Willis obrein was a great genuis behind the great ape himself king kong 1933.Ifeel both countries owe this respect to the late mr. obrein[aka ob']. If america can compomise on other things with japan there should be no probelm with this.Godzilla was also created with greatness by japanese genuis toho studio.The original [KING KONG VERSUS GODZILLA] will always remain a classic for many fans it will always be rememberd as a great sc-fi giant monster cinema of 1963. It will always be a turning point in the history of godzilla films.It was exciting then at the time of men in rubber suits portraying this two famous monsters since DRACULA AND FRANKENSTEIN. Over time they to have been remade in the 21st century.SO the time has come for king kong and godzilla to pare off one more time and give us people who waits this fun and great movie to receive that feeling again just like back in 1963.

I'd love to see a KKvG remake but good luck getting Toho and Universal to collaborate...

Word on the street is that Toho's fees for the use of Godzilla's character in a film are exhorbitant at best and I can only begin to try to imagine what Universal charges for Kong considering it was in the range of $300,000 in the 50s!!!

gillman47 22 months ago

if they do remake this movie i hope the don't use the likes of kong to the peter jacksons, use more of a likeness of the king kong in 1976. kong would crush the big g

Godzilla is meaner, stronger than King Kong. King of the Monsters will ALWAYS win against King Kong!!

King Kong vs. Godzilla? Really?

Does anyone think Universal will allow King Kong to lose to Godzilla?

I have no problem cheering Kong to victory, but I bet most fans who want a remake do.

So do you guys want to see Kong winning...again, only with better effects?

josh 20 months ago

King Kong would be stronger, but Godzillas breat would own kong to no end. End of debate. If Godzilla had a "failure to use his breath to much" then it would be a close fight, but Godzilla would just blow away Kong. KING of monsters for a reason, which is sad, because we love Kong too, but ordinary versus EXTRORDINARY!!

I would love to see a new godzilla movie but I hate it when godzilla is played the villian sinse he is always the one hwo saves the day in any other movie he should be played the hero creature,they say there a new one being made coming out in 2012 i hope he gets to fight and cool new monster not like the flop movie where he attack the city that was crappy.

billy joe 19 months ago

ok this is dumb there is know way that kong could win in a fight with the jap version of godzilla think about it godzilla is 400 feet tall and kong is 50 feet in the old one 25 in the new godzilla would just step on him the only way it could be a far fight if they used the 1998 godzilla and he wasnt fully grown 75 to a hundred feet tall kong could have a chance then but there is no way he could take on the jap version its not possible and with the argument about who wins i day they both die it works

Neal 17 months ago

They would just have to grow Kong to 200 feet tall or whatever like they did in the 1963 movie.

I think it would be a great idea, but unfortunately, with the creative masters gone, the appeal would be gone as well. For us die-hard fans, it would be wonderful if someone would take that type of project as seriously as O'Brien/Tsubaraya/Honda/Akfube/and Tanaka did

This is a MUST! With all the technology today, a Zilla vs Kong remake would be an INSTANT hit and probably one of the biggest money making movies of all time because of the history of the two monster movie legends.

ismael acevedo 15 months ago

Yes a remake would be great if both studios can agree. It should follow the tradition of the 63 movie. Kong is a draw in the US, so if it is to make money, just like the original King Kong vs Godzilla, he whould win.

darren 14 months ago

i think a new king kong vs godzilla movie would be a great idea. however it must be the correct godzilla and kong. it must NOT be the american zilla. and it must be the Toho kong. not the american one. this would make kong slightly smaller, but still large enough to make a great battle. as for the special effects, i really don't think it matters, though there is definitely more potential in the whole use of CGI. anyway, that is my opinion

King Kong hater and Godzilla lover 13 months ago

If there's to be remake of King Kong vs. Godzilla, I'd want Godzilla to win easily by chomping off Kong's arms and burning that dang ape to a crisp.

@gillman47:

"Are you delusional or something? You have no idea what Godzilla's capable of. If you like Kong so much, why don't you let the Big G kill you and him?"

@josh:

"Who's this we? You don't know for sure that we all love Kong. There Kong haters in this world. And I'm one of them.

And what makes you so sure that Kong is stronger? The Big G's strong in more than one way. Why, he can function underwater better than the stupid gorilla can.

The reason that I want japan's most famous monster to win against the United States' most famous monster is because I love reptiles more than mammals."

@ismael acevedo:

"Oh, no! Another King Kong fanatic. Do me a favor by feeding yourself and that ape to Godzilla."

@billy joe:

"Do you have any idea what you typed about? First, you typed that Godzilla would against Kong and why. Next, you suggested both of them dying? What's with you? Only Kong should die."

@darren:

"It pains me that you and other people are against the American Godzilla. I happen to like that Godzilla more because he doesn't have a humanoid appearance. And I like non-humanoids more than humanoids because I like animals more than humans.

If there really will be a movie about King Kong fighting Godzilla, it better show the Big G winning with ease. But if it's about the American Godzilla fighting his Japanese version and Kong, I'd want him to win against them without a problem."

Universal Pictures has proven in Court onNovember 24, 1976 that King Kong was public domain.

The King Kong name can not be trademarked.

Toho does not know that King Kong is public domain.

There was no King Kong versus remake in 1991 because they could not get the rights to use King Kong.

The short answer if Toho knew that King Kong was public domain there would most likely been a King Kong vs. Godzilla remake.

Rudy Rubio 4 months ago

If they ever decide to make a remake of this movie (KK vs. G). I hope hope they don't use Peter Jackson's portrayal of Kong, cuz when did you all see Fay Wray dancing around like a clown doing flips. Now please the girl is suppose to frighten by this huge ape not getting turned-on like in 1976 version and flipping like a cartwheel in 2005, but acting like Ms. Wray in 1933 version..........SCARED as hell screaming!!!!!!!!!!!

So i hope if they remake is made, I hope the people are running like hell for their lives!!!!!!!!!!
